Sensei Todd Fleck is originally from Upper Stewiacke, Nova Scotia. In 1991, after he graduated from South Colchester High School, he enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces to be a Traffic Technician. He has enjoyed posting to 8 Wing Trenton, CFB Gagetown, 12 Wing Shearwater, 14 Wing Greenwood and CFB Halifax. In 2004 he had the opportunity to become a Loadmaster on the CC130 Hercules. Flying on the Hercules aircraft afforded many opportunities to travel the world. He has been as far west as Hawaii and as far east as Tiksi, Russia. Sensei Fleck has served 6 months in CFS Alert, 7 months in Bosnia and 14 months in Afghanistan. After 29 years of service he has reached the rank of Master Warrent Officer.
Sensei Fleck has been training in Yoshinkan Aikido since 1993 and started his adventure at the Bushinkan Dojo under Sensei Jim Arsenault. At that time the Bushinkan Dojo was located at 8 Wing Trenton. 8 Wing Trenton, located in Trenton Ontario, is Canada's largest Air Mobility Airforce Base in Canada. In 1999 Sensei Fleck moved to CFB Gagetown and was encouraged to open a dojo there by Sensei Steve Nickerson. Sensei Nickerson awarded Sensei Fleck his Shodan, 1st Degree Black Belt.
2004 saw Sensei Fleck moved back to 8 Wing Trenton where he continued his training with Sensei Arsenault where he received his Nidan, 2nd Degree Black Belt. In 2006 Sensei Arsenault retired from Aikido and offered the Bushinkan dojo to Sensei Fleck.
In 2010 he moved back to Nova Scotia,this time to 12 Wing Shearwater, where he again began training with Sensei Nickerson and was awarded Sandan, 3rd Degree Black Belt in 2011.
In 2016 Sensei Nickerson awarded Sensei Fleck with his Yondan, 4th Degree Black Belt.
Even with all the moving around the country and the world Sensei Fleck still calls the Upper Stewiacke, Brookfield and Stewiacke areas home. He is excited about opening up his dojo in Stewiacke and looks forward to all the new people he will be able to call friends
